The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter

Noir Stalgia is a nobleman who is oppressed by others in nobility. He has a special ability, to communicate with the Great Sage, who tells him about anything he wants to know. Unable to become a librarian, Noir decides to join the Hero Academy. To do so, he must get stronger. The Great Sage tells him to go to a dungeon in the mountains.¹

Whilst there, Noir finds a chained-up woman, Olivia Servant. She gives Noir powerful abilities, making him strong. However, when he uses his abilities, he loses life points. To replenish his life points, he has to "give in to worldly pleasures such as kissing his childhood friend".¹

Sexual Content

This anime has a lot of sexual content. People kiss sensually, women's breasts are exposed, and undergarments are seen.² Women touch Noir inappropriately.² Crunchyroll says that this anime contains nakedness.³ Women wear shorts and short skirts. According to the Bible, this sort of content is immodest.

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" (1 Timothy 2:9)

Women should act and dress modestly. Yet, we have Noir and his "harem" doing things that ought not be done. The next verse says: "But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works" (1 Timothy 2:10). Does it become women professing godliness when they are acting like harlots?

"[26] My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. [27] For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. [28] She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men." (Proverbs 23:26-28)

These women act are strange women. God says to observe His way, to keep your eyes on what is holy and good, and to keep them off the strange woman and whore. Therefore, because this anime has a lot of immodesty and sexual media, we must conclude the scriptures condemn it.

Violence

Another issue with The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter is the violence found in the show.³ When there is violence, at least one side is in sin. As such, there will never be a time where violence is acceptable to watch. This anime is violent and has fights in it.² Surely no Christian would call violence godly?

"The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth." (Psalm 11:5)

Do you want to be hated by the Jehovah's soul? I sure don't! I want to be living in accordance with the scriptures. To do so, I must avoid consuming violent media. I implore you to consider what the Bible says above.

Magic

Even from the plot itself, one can already figure out that there are magical elements to this anime. Can we truly justify the consumption of witchcraft? No, we cannot. God is clear in His word that witchcraft/magic is demonic in nature and that we are to put those things away from us.

In fact, those things are called abominations (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). Now, consider what this next verse says:

"Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing." (Deuteronomy 7:26)

If abominations (e.g., magic) are not to be in your house, then we can conclude that there should not be magic in your house. That's abundantly clear from the scriptures.

Conclusion

To do what we're supposed to, we should not consume this anime. There are many aspects to this show that are evil and wicked. There is no reason for a Christian to watch it, and doing so would be contrary to the clear commands of the Bible.

Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy. Ecumenical Christianity This show has many crosses throughout. Lawrence (the pastor) and Cecilia (the saint) run the church right outside their town. Due to the usage of "pastor" and "saint," the crosses, and the church looking like the average old-time Baptist church, many have claimed the anime as a "Christian anime." The term "pastor" is mostly associated with non-denominational and Baptist groups while calling someone a "saint" (in an unbiblical sense) tends to be Catholic and Orthodox. Additionally, the way the "church" in this world is, it is somewhat of an ecclesiastical hi...

Are There "Christian Anime"?

Are there "Christian anime"? Many anime-watching believers would affirm that there are. But what constitutes a "Christian anime"? What is the criterion by which we determine if something is Christian or not (e.g., anime, movies, video games)? Now, the term "Christian anime" is used, based on my personal experience, by a YouTuber Christian Anime Podcast , and those who listen to him. Whenever he says "Christian anime," what he means by that is an anime that contains Christian values. Thus, an anime may be full of idolatry, violence, and even severe immodesty, yet if it "teaches something" like forgiveness, it is called Christian. However, I would like to bring the Scriptures into this. What does the Bible say makes something Christian? What Does it Mean to be Christian? I find it appropriate to look at the first mention of Christians (by this term) in Scripture. In Acts 11, the believers at Antioch were called Christians for the first ti...

Beneath the Tangles Exposed

Within Christianity, there will always be those who compromise their biblical standards upon the altar of pleasure and entertainment. Just as this has been a struggle in the past, it is still a struggle for thousands of Christians worldwide. The creation of anime-supporting "Christian" media just adds fuel to the fire, hastening the destruction of the world under the pretense of "evangelism." On this note, I recently came across a Christian × anime group named Beneath The Tangles . This group supports anime, claiming one can "see God himself" through anime.¹ Their stated mission is: "Beneath the Tangles bridges the divide between anime fans and the Christian church by developing anime-related content and discussing anime and Christianity as expressed through anime, manga, and light novels; ministering to and loving Christian anime fans; and demonstrating faith by modeling Christ through interaction with our readers and followers."² They seek to p...
