The Rising of the Shield Hero

Due to a phenomenon known as the Waves of Catastrophy, which is repeatedly destroying both people and lands, the kingdom of Melromarc summons the Four Cardinal Heroes to save them. These four heroes each receive a unique weapon: one a sword, another carries a bow, one brandishes a spear, and the last defends with a shield.¹ Naofumi Iwatani was summoned as the Shield Hero, but he is mocked and looked down upon for a lack of offensive power. He set off with the only person willing to work with the Shield Hero, Malty Melromarc, who betrayed him soon thereafter.¹ After being falsely accused of raping Malty,² the people of Melromarc began to hate Naofumi and treat him poorly.¹ Attempting to become stronger himself, he buys a demi-human slave, Raphtalia, to accompany him on his journey.¹ False Accusations The first thing that stands out when one hears simply the plot is the fact that Naofumi was falsely accused of rape. This is a major issue b...

Black Bullet

Black Bullet is an anime about humans and a virus called Gastrea. This virus turns its victims into monsters. However, Gastrea has one weakness: a material known as Varanium. To combat the Gastrea virus, there are female children known as Initiators, also referred to as "Cursed Children." The Initiators' bodies have minute amounts of Gastrea, granting them superhuman powers. Initiators are assigned partners, called Promoters, whose role is to protect their Initiator. One such pair is that of Enju Aihara (Initiator) and Satomi Rentaro (Promoter), who fight Gastrea in Tokyo.¹ Improper Clothing and Pedophilia There are some immodest things in this show. For example, girls wear short skirts, and there are bathing scenes². This anime sexualizes the young girls, and this is not godly! One blog notes that the show hypersexualizes loli (that is, young female) characters.³ The Scriptures instruct women to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9). Yet, this anime not only goes contrary to t...

My Happy Marriage

Miyo Saimori was born through an arranged marriage. However, after her mother died, her father remarried. Her half-sister was the one whom her father and stepmother cared about. They abuse Miyo and treat her like a mere servant. Much to her surprise, Miyo's father reveals that she is to marry the head of the Kudou family, Kiyoka.¹ Abuse One thing that immediately jumps out at you when reading about this anime is the presence of abuse. In fact, this is central to the entire story, to the point where abuse is actually shown, including choking.² "Miyo is the victim of bullying, abuse, and neglect from her father, stepmother, and stepsister. In memories and dreams, she is locked in small rooms, treated as a servant, underfed, and verbally harassed. In the present day, her family and others still use intimidation and insults to frighten and manipulate their adult children."³ Does this sound like something that God would be okay with? The Scriptures command to bring your c...
