Nanami Momozono's father was in excessive debt and was also absent. Now homeless, Nanami spots a man being "harassed by a dog." She helps him out, then explains her situation. The man offers her his house, but it turns out to be a beat-up shrine. Upon trying to leave, she is stopped by two shrine spirits and Tomoe, a fox familiar.¹ The trio mistook her for the man she had saved. The man, Mikage, was apparently the shrine's land god. They believe that Nanami was sent there to be their replacement god. However, Tomoe retreats, refusing to submit himself to a human. Regardless, Nanami throws herself into her duties as the new god of the shrine. She recognizes Tomoe's necessity, and through a turn of events, she ends up sealing a contract with him.¹ Deification As we can see, Nanami becomes a deity, a land god.
