In the anime Sunday Without God , God has forsaken the world. This results in life being uncreatable and inextinguishable—no life can be born, nor can one die. After her mother's death, Ai takes her place as their village's gravekeeper.¹ Hampnie Hambart, a man who is supposedly Ai's father, destroys and kills all the people of Ai's village. With no other plans, Ai accompanies Hampnie. She travels, assisting the dead rest as well as helping the living.
