A mighty dragon who was feared by the gods was defeated by a human. This dragon reincarnated in a simple village as a human named Dolan. The former dragon must now live his life as a human, farming and hunting. The Holy Anime Wars  is a blog I started several months ago to help combat the ever-growing so-called "Christian anime" community, particularly their teachings. I praise the Lord for revealing the evils of anime to me and for pulling me out of that world. Reflecting on the Blog When I created this blog, I had no idea what it would become. Are there "Christian anime"? Many anime-watching believers would affirm that there are. But what constitutes a "Christian anime"? What is the criterion by which we determine if something is Christian or not (e.g., anime, movies, video games)? Now, the term "Christian anime" is used, based on my personal experience, by a YouTuber Christian Anime Podcast , and those who listen to him. Whenever he says "Christian anime," what he means by that is an anime that contains Christian values. Thus, an anime may be full of idolatry, violence, and even severe immodesty, yet if it "teaches something" like forgiveness, it is called Christian. Within Christianity, there will always be those who compromise their biblical standards upon the altar of pleasure and entertainment. Just as this has been a struggle in the past, it is still a struggle for thousands of Christians worldwide. The creation of anime-supporting "Christian" media just adds fuel to the fire, hastening the destruction of the world under the pretense of "evangelism." On this note, I recently came across a Christian × anime group named Beneath The Tangles . A common excuse given by Christians, in an attempt to continue watching anime, is that there is "just one inappropriate scene, the rest of the show is fine." This argument appeals to the flesh, but is contrary to Holy Writ. In Scripture, we are given a very simple principle: "A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump" (Galatians 5:9). One bad scene is one bad scene too many. When one begins to excuse wickedness merely because it's a minor part of an anime or show, they inevitably start sliding down a slippery slope. One scene easily becomes two. What makes two wrong but one okay? And then two becomes three—"it's only one more scene." Three becomes four, and before you know it, you are involved in media crawling with sin and demonic activity! How many scenes does a show need to have before it's wrong? Before I begin this post, I want to make sure I point out that not all anime watchers are involved in piracy. However, many are, and, incidentally, many Christians are too. In this post, I want to look at piracy from a biblical worldview. Piracy is the " unauthorized reproduction or use of a copyrighted book, recording, television program, patented invention, trademarked product, etc."¹ For example, accessing a pirated copy of a book (e.g., a PDF photo scan of a copyrighted book) is piracy, thus making you a biblioklept (book thief). On the topic of anime, it is piracy to use sites that host the shows illegally. As it's piracy, it is illegal in most countries. The Bible tells us to obey the government. Peter says for us to "Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man" (1 Peter 2:13) and mentions specifically kings  (2:13) and governors (2:14). We're to submit to the rulers of this world. "I wonder when Russia'll ban Alya ." - Me Often, when one speaks out against anime, they'll be hit with, "If it doesn't affect you, then it's fine." However, I want to contest this idea. I believe anything we allow ourselves to consume will have some impact upon you. What Does Russia Have to do With This? Now, based on the article's title, one may ask what this has to do with Russia. Well, Russia has banned several anime in the past couple years. They've banned these anime for the content found within. According to one website: "[A] prosecutor in St. Petersburg indicated that those kinds of segments violate article 242 of the criminal code of the Russian Federation. The article says that clips with explicit imagery, violence, etc. may cause harm to the mental health of many young people."¹ Russia claims that these shows may cause mental harm. This post will be a dissertation against the idea that what we watch doesn't matter "as long as it doesn't affect you." This is likely the most common argument used to condone anime for the Christian. Does this logic line up with the Bible? Our Authority As Christians, our authority is not human logic, rather the Words of the Almighty God. The Scriptures say of themselves:  "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" (2 Timothy 3:16) The church is the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15). This means that the church upholds the truth like a pillar does a roof. According to John 17:17, the Word of the Lord is truth.
