The Devil is a Part-Timer!

Satan begins to take over the land of Ente Isla using his armies of demons. His advances are stopped by a heroine named Emilia, and Satan flees through a portal, landing in the human world. He is determined to return and conquer Enta Isla, once he figures out how to get back. Trapped in modern Tokyo, he must disguise himself as a human. However, he becomes passionate about climbing the corporate ladder. Thus begins Satan's life as a working human.¹

Demons and Satan

The first, and most glaring issue, is that this show portrays Satan, regardless of how inaccurate. The very fact that someone thought it was even a good idea to name a demonic character after Satan reveals the wickedness behind the anime.

Why would a Christian involve themselves with such evil? The Bible is clear that Christ and Belial (Satan) have no agreement with each other.

"And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?" (2 Corinthians 6:15)

If we are to "follow his steps" (1 Peter 2:21), and Christ does not fellowship or commune with Satan or demonic forces, then we shouldn't either! Do we, as professing Christians, really want to fill our minds with unclean and impure media (Philippians 4:8)?

Immodesty

Crunchyroll gives a content warning for sexual imagery.² Women are seen in swimsuits, and there are several scenes in which females are seen showing/bathing.⁽³⁾⁽⁴⁾ This is not the kind of content the Lord would have His children watch. We are God's; we are to follow the rules He sets. Just as a parent can set rules about what their kids are allowed to do or watch, so too God has rules about those things!

He has said to keep our eyes focused on the right ways.

"Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee." (Proverbs 4:25)

If our eyes are to "look right on," to take in what is holy and good, to stray not to the left or right, then let us endeavor to obey! Proverbs 23 is clear that we are to "let thine eyes observe my ways" so that we do not fall to strange women (Proverbs 23:26-27).

Profanity

Next, we'll consider the language contained in this show. There are several profane words in this anime.⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ Earlier, we referenced Proverbs 4:25,  but I'd like to also consider the two verses before it.

"[23] Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. [24] Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee." (Proverbs 4:23-24)

If we want to keep our hearts, we need to be diligent about what we allow ourselves to consume and let into our minds. Jehovah God commands, "Put away from thee a froward mouth". This is not an optional "if it affects you," it is a blanket command. Keep the perverse speech away, lest you be like unto it.

Violence

Violence is something that humans often enjoy. But it ought not be this way. I'm not sure if there's a word to properly express this, but many times we get a rush of a "transcendent" feeling when watching violence. When there is witchcraft or powers involved, this feeling seems to be multiplied.

Do you think this is a coincidence? That rush is addicting, pulling you in, hooking the mind with its sinful grasp. Satan knows exactly how to pull us in, and we are to not be ignorant of his devices. The Scriptures are clear that those who love violence God hates.

"The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth." (Psalm 11:5)

That's a strong expression! Don't take this lightly! I wouldn't want to be one whom God hates. Therefore, we are to keep our eyes focused forward, on the Lord Himself and things that are not contrary to Him and His word.

Conclusion

A satanic anime about a devil working a job in the human world? That makes no sense, and it's not biblical at all. An immodest and violent show where Satan plays house⁵ is supposed to bring God glory?!

Against Anime

180AD "Against Heresies" - Irenaeus 2025AD "Against Anime" - Kenyon Bowers I believe watching most, if not all anime, to be sinful. One may ask how I can make such a brazen statement. That's what this essay is for; I'd like to explain my case against anime. What is Anime? We must first define "anime." Anime, as I have gathered, refers to animation originating from Japan. This means that American cartoons (even if they look like anime) are not considered proper anime. Now, there's a little nuance as some consider donghua (Chinese animations) and Korean animations to be anime, while others make distinctions. For the purpose of this blog, we go with the latter definition which excludes donghua and Korean animation (though there is sometimes overlap). Thus, the running definition for anime I've come up with is: Anime , noun : Animation originating from Japan.  Why is Anime Bad? Now that we have a definition for anime, let's look at wha...

Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy. Ecumenical Christianity This show has many crosses throughout. Lawrence (the pastor) and Cecilia (the saint) run the church right outside their town. Due to the usage of "pastor" and "saint," the crosses, and the church looking like the average old-time Baptist church, many have claimed the anime as a "Christian anime." The term "pastor" is mostly associated with non-denominational and Baptist groups while calling someone a "saint" (in an unbiblical sense) tends to be Catholic and Orthodox. Additionally, the way the "church" in this world is, it is somewhat of an ecclesiastical hi...

Pokémon

Pokémon was a show many grew up watching. People will certainly feel personally attacked when I speak of the wicked things found in the show. Many have spoken on Pokémon long before me, and they have been ridiculed—I am not expecting any other response. Immodesty Just like the average anime in which there are beach episodes, the woman are in bikinis.¹ On top of this, woman are in tight-fitting and revealing clothing. "Various female characters-notably the recurring character of Jessie-wear clothing that is revealing, tight-fitting, or both." ¹ "As is typical with anime, female characters wear short skirts, breast-enhancing tops."² Bikinis, short skirts, tight clothing, etc. are anything but modest. It's utter filth. As Paul relays to us: "In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" (1 Timothy 2:9) When a show has immodesty in it, espe...
