Heaven's Lost Property

Tomoki Sakurai has had dreams involving an angel ever since he was a child, causing him to awake, teary-eyed. His friend, Sohara, takes him to meet Eishirou Sugata, an "eccentric sky maniac", to get him help. Eishirou believes that Tomoki's dream is linked to the New World, "a floating anomaly that scientists have failed to understand."¹

Eishirou enlists them in the New World Discovery Club as its first members and sets a date for them to gather and observe the New World in the sky. However, when that day arrives, a woman falls from the sky and begins to call Tomoki master. The New World Discovery Club spends its time learning about Angeloids that have come to earth.¹

Inappropriate Content

According to Crunchyroll, this anime contains a lot of immodesty and sexual content. They list "Sexual Content, Sexualized Imagery, [and] Suggestive Dialogue".²

"Women wear revealing clothing, or are nude while bathing."

"The male protagonist's main obsession is trying to get peeks at naked girls, including up their skirts, using a spyglass, and sneaking into girls' bathrooms and locker rooms."³

Quite literally, this show is about a guy who is a pervert and naked women. Their skirts are short and their breasts are exposed, both of which are immodest. Yet, some would like to argue this is fine for Christians to watch, so long as they don't lust.

"[26] My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. [27] For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit." (Proverbs 23:26-27)

His eyes are commanded to observe the way of God, so that he might not look after a harlot and be deceived. Scripturally, the opposite of looking at God's way is looking at sin, and it describes here that when you begin to look at whores and strange women, do not be surprised when you've fallen into the pit.

Magic

Magic is also a big part of this anime. One character uses a magical bow called Apollon as well as an "energy shield" known as Aegis.⁴ This same character, Ikaros, has the Uranus System:

"The Uranus System is designed and developed by Daedalus, the energy source is the Variable Wing Core, which made the name Uranus Queen Ikaros....  It allows her to unlock her full power potential and grants her access to incredible weapons to use in battle. When in Uranus Queen mode, Ikaros has access to four powerful weapons/abilities, [which] makes her almost unstoppable in battle.

When she triggers her Uranus Queen mode, her green eyes turn red/purple, her soft, pink wings change into a bright light, and a golden halo appears above her head. Ikaros can either call up parts (robotic arms, primary guns) while in Uranus Queen mode, or it convenes completely."⁴

This is only one character; imagine how much more there would be if we went through each character. Clearly, witchcraft is a major aspect of this show, but this ought not be so. Galatians 5:20 lists witchcraft as a vice which the Christian ought never to participate in.

"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king." (1 Samuel 15:23)

King Saul was removed from being king. Why? Well, he had rebelled against the LORD. This rebellion led to his dying, and the LORD removed his Spirit from Saul. This rebellion is compared in severity with witchcraft. This sin, which led to Saul being removed from kingship, was on the same level as witchcraft!

It seems that witchcraft is a major sin that God cares about. Why would we fill our minds with such content?

Conclusion

Upon this basis, the Bible condemns Heaven's Lost Property. Let us walk as the children of light, reproving the wickedness, having no fellowship with the fruits of darkness (Ephesians 5:8-11)! Scripture does not support nor allow us to watch this anime.

Against Anime

180AD "Against Heresies" - Irenaeus 2025AD "Against Anime" - Kenyon Bowers I believe watching most, if not all anime, to be sinful. One may ask how I can make such a brazen statement. That's what this essay is for; I'd like to explain my case against anime. What is Anime? We must first define "anime." Anime, as I have gathered, refers to animation originating from Japan. This means that American cartoons (even if they look like anime) are not considered proper anime. Now, there's a little nuance as some consider donghua (Chinese animations) and Korean animations to be anime, while others make distinctions. For the purpose of this blog, we go with the latter definition which excludes donghua and Korean animation (though there is sometimes overlap). Thus, the running definition for anime I've come up with is: Anime , noun : Animation originating from Japan.  Why is Anime Bad? Now that we have a definition for anime, let's look at wha...

Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy. Ecumenical Christianity This show has many crosses throughout. Lawrence (the pastor) and Cecilia (the saint) run the church right outside their town. Due to the usage of "pastor" and "saint," the crosses, and the church looking like the average old-time Baptist church, many have claimed the anime as a "Christian anime." The term "pastor" is mostly associated with non-denominational and Baptist groups while calling someone a "saint" (in an unbiblical sense) tends to be Catholic and Orthodox. Additionally, the way the "church" in this world is, it is somewhat of an ecclesiastical hi...

Christian Anime Podcast Exposed

"Fiction doesn't condone sin." - Kenyon Bowers There is a YouTuber with a couple thousand subscribers known as "Christian Anime Podcast." He claims he is "The leading Christian voice on AniTube"¹ and promotes what he calls "Christian anime." However, there are some things we can learn and reasons to avoid him. This is not meant to just attack him personally, but rather to inform and to show the results of his stance. First , he labels wicked things "Christian." There are so many examples of this. I would like to reference a specific one, however. " That Time My Wife Reincarnated as an Elementary Schooler is a Christian anime."² What does he mean that such an anime is a Christian anime? Neither reincarnation/possession nor borderline pedophilia are Christian. This just shows he will label wicked things as "Christian" because "it has a good lesson you can get from it." If that's merely all it take...
