Having lived as a NEET (not in employment, education, or training), Kazuma Satou meets a goddess named Aqua after dying on the way home with a new video game. Aqua gives him two options: either to go to heaven or be reincarnated into a fantasy world. Being the gamer he is, Kazuma chooses to reincarnate. Having been given the ability to select "one item of any kind to aid him in his quest," he chooses the goddess herself.¹
After reincarnating, he is given the task of defeating the demon king, but it won't be simple since the goddess he brought along with him is utterly useless. Quickly, they learn that living isn't free and they must work for their livelihood. Thus begins the adventures of this hero.¹
Tarrying Long at the Wine
We are alerted that this anime contains alcohol usage.⁽²⁾⁽³⁾ Scripture warns us against drinking, telling us that those who are deceived by wine are unwise (Proverbs 20:1). There is a type of wine that defiles (Daniel 1:8), and we are told not to even look upon such (Proverbs 23:31). But contrary to the Bible, this show has such wickedness anyway.
"[29] Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? [30] They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. [31] Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. [32] At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. [33] Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. [34] Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. [35] They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again." (Proverbs 23:29-35)
How much clearer can it get? Alcohol will only ever lead you away from Christ, never towards Him. Wouldn't it be better for the disciple if he stayed away from any form of alcohol, in which there is excess (Ephesians 5:18)?
Profanity
Profanity is part of this anime,² a reason we should not be participating in its consumption. I'm sure that Lot thought he was stronger than the influence of Sodom, yet being around, no doubt, their language and vulgar speech, it chipped away at his morality. When we come to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, he has slipped so far that he was willing to give his daughters to a mod of sodomites!
Peter tells us that Lot was "vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked" because "in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds" (2 Peter 2:7-8). This is exactly why we are told in 1 Corinthians that "evil communications corrupt good manners" (1 Corinthians 15:33). There is no way for you to fill your mind with evil (which is contrary to Philippians 4:8) and remain unaffected.
False Deities
This anime contains false deities, one of whom you've already been introduced to, Aqua. Another is someone named Eris, the "Goddess of Luck and Fortune".⁴ We know from the Bible that there is no other God but the Lord Jehovah. The show portrays Eris as a good person, but she can disguise herself as "Chris", a thief, and roam the world.⁵ This reflects the fact that the Greek Eris is the goddess of strife and discord. Is this a mere coincidence—that a goddess being a thief could be the Greek goddess of discord?
"Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God." (Isaiah 44:6)
Does it please the Lord when we fill our minds and houses with false goddesses? Of course not! Paul reveals to us that false gods are nothing more than devils (1 Corinthians 10:19-21). As such, when we watch this show, which portrays false gods, think about what you may be letting into your house!
Agenderism
There is a subset of people in this anime who are "genderless", yet they look either male or female.⁶ This is the modern LGBT movement inserted into this anime. We have the male and female characters, but then there's the third—genderless. This is what the LGBT crowd is attempting to promote: the idea that gender is fluid, that you can simply be a "person" and neither man nor woman. And these characters still appear as male and female, also highlighting that they're LGBT, promoting agenderism.
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Genesis 1:27)
This principle is likewise stated by Jesus (Matthew 19:4, Mark 10:6) and in Genesis 5:2. The idea that you can exist outside the biological sex God made you to be is simply not biblical, nor is it Christ-honoring.
Witchcraft
Witchcraft is evil and a grave sin. According to the fandom page, there are various types of magic, each with its own set of spells.⁷ Does this strike you as something the Lord would want His children wrapped up in? Of course not. Under the Old Testament, those who did magic were not allowed to live (Exodus 22:18).
How would you like it if you commanded your child to have nothing to do with something, yet they continue to disobey by associating with it, just so long as they are not the ones doing it? You would rightfully be upset! What do you think we are doing to the Lord when He sees His children consuming the very things He wanted destroyed?
Absence of Modesty
Aside from the fact that the clothing worn is immodest, there is, even by worldly standards, straight-up nudity.² Crunchyroll lists both nudity and sexual content! When the world acknowledges something as nudity, chances are it is terrible. An example is that a female character does not wear undergarments, and emphasis is placed on her buttocks.³
Only a Christian with zero discernment would think this is fine. No person should clothe themselves in such immodest attire. According to Paul:
"[9] In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; [10] But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Not only are women to be modestly covered, which this show does not do, but they are to do good works. But, as mentioned in the last section, there is magic, which is not good works! Instead of watching anime with women in "the attire of an harlot" (Proverbs 7:10), we should spend our time doing things that please God.
Conclusion
When you compare this anime to Scripture, it simply does not line up. Amongst the things found, you have false deities, false goddesses, and God is a jealous God who does not want you to be interacting with such evil. And on top of this, all the many other things listed (and possibly not listed) prove that we simply should not be watching this show.
