Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie

Yuu Izumi, a high school student, lives a life full of extreme unluck. However, amidst the maelstrom of misfortune, the popular, "[cute], athletic, and caring" Micchon Shikimori, Izumi's girlfriend, is always there to protect him.¹

Sensual Content

In this show, short skirts are worn and cleavage is seen. There is also a bikini. Additionally, there's a scene where Shikimori licks her fingers in way meant to be seductive. Does this sound like something God would like? Of course not! First of all, women are to be modest (1 Timothy 2:9).

"[10] And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. [11] (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: [12] Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)" (Proverbs 7:10-12)

Women who dress immodestly are not talked about highly in Scripture—quite the opposite, honestly. Isaiah 3:16-17 speaks of women who have "wanton eyes". Such eyes should only belong to one's spouse, not to a boyfriend. But Shikimori does not care for what the Scriptures say. She acts lewd.

Effeminate

Izumi, being protected by his girlfriend, is really effeminate. Rather than being a man, he requires protection (all the time!) from a woman. Few things rival this level of effeminacy. As stated, this isn't even a one off thing either, he would die if she wasn't fulfilling the role of "protector." That should be the job of the man!

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind," (1 Corinthians 6:9, emphasis mine)

The Scriptures clearly forbid men from being emasculate. Because Izumi is effeminate, we should not watch the anime. I don't want to nitpick, but even the Japanese voice actor for Izumi sounds very feminine. It's obviously a male voice, but very emasculate.

Profanity

You'll also find profanity in this show.² Such language does not "speak the praise of the LORD" (Psalm 145:21). Instead, it is "a breach in the spirit" (Proverbs 15:4). Christians ought not to fill their minds with God-displeasing and spirit-breaching speech. May we avoid this anime.

Conclusion

These things are not good. They are sinful and the Lord is not pleased with them. We should not watch things which God does not approve of. God does not approve of this show. For these reasons, Christians should not watch and consume this anime.

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy.
