NTR: Netsuzou Trap

Two childhood friends and high-school students, Yuma and Hotaru, have boyfriends. However, while on a double date, Hotaru discreetly rubs Yuma's thigh, causing the girl to run off to the restroom. Hotaru follows, and thus begins an affair between Hotaru and Yuma.¹

Immodesty

In this show, there is "Nudity" and "Sexual Content".² The women also wear short skirts. Since this anime is about cheating, don't be surprised that there is a lot of bad things going on.

"Two girls have a secret physical relationship. They are often seen kissing, and at times one reaches under the other's skirt or fondles her breasts."

"Some occasionally partially obscured nudity, such as female characters in the bath or waking up [naked]. No explicit detail beyond the outline of their breasts."

"The uncensored version, released on Japanese home video and only available via download online, contains detailed female frontal nudity."³

Do you think this is what Jehovah God would have His children to watch? Of course not! The Bible is clear that immodesty is wrong (1 Timothy 2:9) and therefore, we should not fill our minds with it. This anime is full of such immodesty.

Vile Affection and Broken Commitment

Biblically speaking, "boyfriends" and "girlfriends" do not exist. However, when you enter this man-made commitment, it is a vow that you're not going to be pursuing another. Therefore, just as God keeps His promises, so "boyfriends" and "girlfriends" should too. As the title of the anime states, it is an NTR (寝取られ (netorare), "cheating"). The two girlfriends cheat on their boyfriends with each other. They're violating that commitment! And they're doing so through lesbianism.

"For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:" (Romans 1:26)

Two women changing the natural use "into that which is against nature". That is what this show does. Two women touching each other in ways they should not. One reviewer says:

"Because these morally reprehensible people overshadowed my interest in the other aspects of the event, I never really paid attention to the sound. One finds it difficult to care about any other aspect of a show when it glorifies a couple for their infidelity and abuse. NTR is among the worst anime series ever made, with a plot that never seems to end and some of the most [unlikable] characters you can imagine."⁴

This is not okay! The LORD would not and does not approve of such.

Language

In this anime, you'll find profanity.³ The Bible, however, it clear that improper language is not alright. In 1 Corinthians 15:33, it tells us to "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners." What we hear is important because it can vex us (2 Peter 2:8). Let us watch media with good language, not bad.

Conclusion

This anime is disgusting. Few things can rival the hurt one feels when the one their invested in stabs them in the back. This sort of behavior is not okay, and it is wicked. And with the other content, there's just no way a Christian can justify this show.

Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy. Ecumenical Christianity This show has many crosses throughout. Lawrence (the pastor) and Cecilia (the saint) run the church right outside their town. Due to the usage of "pastor" and "saint," the crosses, and the church looking like the average old-time Baptist church, many have claimed the anime as a "Christian anime." The term "pastor" is mostly associated with non-denominational and Baptist groups while calling someone a "saint" (in an unbiblical sense) tends to be Catholic and Orthodox. Additionally, the way the "church" in this world is, it is somewhat of an ecclesiastical hi...

Are There "Christian Anime"?

Are there "Christian anime"? Many anime-watching believers would affirm that there are. But what constitutes a "Christian anime"? What is the criterion by which we determine if something is Christian or not (e.g., anime, movies, video games)? Now, the term "Christian anime" is used, based on my personal experience, by a YouTuber Christian Anime Podcast , and those who listen to him. Whenever he says "Christian anime," what he means by that is an anime that contains Christian values. Thus, an anime may be full of idolatry, violence, and even severe immodesty, yet if it "teaches something" like forgiveness, it is called Christian. However, I would like to bring the Scriptures into this. What does the Bible say makes something Christian? What Does it Mean to be Christian? I find it appropriate to look at the first mention of Christians (by this term) in Scripture. In Acts 11, the believers at Antioch were called Christians for the first ti...

Beneath the Tangles Exposed

Within Christianity, there will always be those who compromise their biblical standards upon the altar of pleasure and entertainment. Just as this has been a struggle in the past, it is still a struggle for thousands of Christians worldwide. The creation of anime-supporting "Christian" media just adds fuel to the fire, hastening the destruction of the world under the pretense of "evangelism." On this note, I recently came across a Christian × anime group named Beneath The Tangles . This group supports anime, claiming one can "see God himself" through anime.¹ Their stated mission is: "Beneath the Tangles bridges the divide between anime fans and the Christian church by developing anime-related content and discussing anime and Christianity as expressed through anime, manga, and light novels; ministering to and loving Christian anime fans; and demonstrating faith by modeling Christ through interaction with our readers and followers."² They seek to p...
