The Aristocrat’s Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far

While going to the store, Kazuya saves two women from an attacker, only to wind up dead.¹ He is reincarnated as a child named Cain in a noble family.¹ At the age of five, he participates in a ceremony at the world's church and he meets the seven gods who give him their blessings.¹

Inappropriate Clothing

In this anime, woman's cleavages are seen, as well as part of a woman's breast while she is nursing. Crunchyroll lists "Sexualized Imagery" as a part of the show.² The Lord tells us in the Scriptures that immodesty is wrong. Here's what it says:

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" (1 Timothy 2:9)

We shouldn't put this sort of content before our eyes (Psalm 101:3).

Hebephilia

There is a character named Tifana who is engaged to (and in love with) Cain, who is a pubescent child.³ This is wicked as Tifana is a fully matured adult! For more information on why hebephilia is wicked, read my post Anime's Unholy Fetish: No Innocence in Loli Culture.

False Gods

There are seven gods in this anime.⁴ While at the church for Cain's "baptism ceremony"⁴, there are idols set up to each member of this pantheon. The LORD is clear that there are no God's but Him alone. In Isaiah it says this:

"¶ I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me..." (Isaiah 45:5a)

The Lord is also clear that we are not to build idols. "Little children, keep yourselves from idols" (1 John 5:21) is what the Apostle tells us.

Magic

One of those gods is the god of magic.⁵ Cain uses magic as well.⁶ The idea that magic is fine and that a god would bless such is utterly wicked. JAH does not approve of this.

"[10] There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, [11] Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer." (Deuteronomy 18:10-11)

We see many forms of witchcraft mentioned here. Many other verses condemn it generally, but this passage shows God condemns it on every level—both generally and individually.

Profanity

This show has profanity in it.² God's name is taken in vain. Should Christians really listen to such language? We all know the answer: No, they shouldn't. A perverse tongue is a breach (that is, a cut) in the spirit according to Proverbs 15:4.

Drugs and Alcohol

According to Crunchyroll, there is "Drug/Alcohol Use".² The Bible is clear that we are to be "sober minded" (Titus 2:6). This isn't what happens when you are using drugs. Additionally, alcohol is considered unholy by the Lord (Leviticus 10:9-10). We shouldn't watch shows with these things contained in them.

Conclusion

Do you believe Christ would be fine with His people watching such things? I believe He would object. If God Himself won't look upon sin (Habakkuk 1:13), why do we think it's fine for us to?

Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence

For this anime, it was hard to pin anything down. Not because there aren't things in it, but because neither IMDb nor Common Sense Media have anything written about its contents. I had watched this show soon after it was released (yes, I used to watch anime) so most of what I say is based upon my memory, but I tried to find sources for accuracy. Ecumenical Christianity This show has many crosses throughout. Lawrence (the pastor) and Cecilia (the saint) run the church right outside their town. Due to the usage of "pastor" and "saint," the crosses, and the church looking like the average old-time Baptist church, many have claimed the anime as a "Christian anime." The term "pastor" is mostly associated with non-denominational and Baptist groups while calling someone a "saint" (in an unbiblical sense) tends to be Catholic and Orthodox. Additionally, the way the "church" in this world is, it is somewhat of an ecclesiastical hi...

Are There "Christian Anime"?

Are there "Christian anime"? Many anime-watching believers would affirm that there are. But what constitutes a "Christian anime"? What is the criterion by which we determine if something is Christian or not (e.g., anime, movies, video games)? Now, the term "Christian anime" is used, based on my personal experience, by a YouTuber Christian Anime Podcast , and those who listen to him. Whenever he says "Christian anime," what he means by that is an anime that contains Christian values. Thus, an anime may be full of idolatry, violence, and even severe immodesty, yet if it "teaches something" like forgiveness, it is called Christian. However, I would like to bring the Scriptures into this. What does the Bible say makes something Christian? What Does it Mean to be Christian? I find it appropriate to look at the first mention of Christians (by this term) in Scripture. In Acts 11, the believers at Antioch were called Christians for the first ti...

Beneath the Tangles Exposed

Within Christianity, there will always be those who compromise their biblical standards upon the altar of pleasure and entertainment. Just as this has been a struggle in the past, it is still a struggle for thousands of Christians worldwide. The creation of anime-supporting "Christian" media just adds fuel to the fire, hastening the destruction of the world under the pretense of "evangelism." On this note, I recently came across a Christian × anime group named Beneath The Tangles . This group supports anime, claiming one can "see God himself" through anime.¹ Their stated mission is: "Beneath the Tangles bridges the divide between anime fans and the Christian church by developing anime-related content and discussing anime and Christianity as expressed through anime, manga, and light novels; ministering to and loving Christian anime fans; and demonstrating faith by modeling Christ through interaction with our readers and followers."² They seek to p...
