Engaged to the Unidentified

This anime is about the romance between Kobeni and Hakuya, who are arranged to be married. Hakuya and his sister, Mashiro move in with Kobeni, Benio, and the girls' mother (who is generally absent in the show).¹

Inappropriate Content

As with most high-school anime, the women are in short skirts. There are also some inappropriate jokes made about Kobeni's breasts.² During the opening, you can see pictures of different characters dressed immodestly.²

In the special Mikakunin de Shinkoukei: Mite. Are ga Watashitachi no Tomatteiru Ryokan yo., characters' naked bodies can be seen, with only their genitals covered.

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;" (1 Timothy 2:9)

Benio, in one of her dreams, is seen dressed as a prince. Cross-dressing is wicked in the sight of God.

"¶ The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God." (Deuteronomy 22:5)

We know that immodesty, cross-dressing, and sexual jokes are not okay. Because of this, this anime should not be watched by Christians.

Pedophilia

Benio, the older sister of Kobeni, is a pedophile.³ She is obsessed with lolis, as can be seen when Mashiro (a nine- to ten-year-old) first appears. Additionally:

"The oldest sister [Benio] is a pervert-type character who chases a 10 year old around, teasing her and making inappropriate remarks"²

In the same special mentioned in the previous section, Benio promises to marry Mashiro (remember, a nine- to ten-year-old). This is predator behavior, and even Kobeni speaks that it had been going on with her for years. This is utterly wicked! The Bible defines the age of marriage as after a person has physically matured (see Anime's Unholy Fetish: No Innocence in Loli Culture). Being attracted to someone who is not physically mature is 1) disgusting and 2) wicked.

Inugami-Lite

An inugami is a "type of canine deity in Japanese mythology." Hakuya and his sister, Mashiro, are considered inugami by the Mikakunin de Shinkokei Wiki.⁶⁾ However, this isn't quite it. They are similar, but not exactly. According to the story of the anime, Kobeni and Hakuya are childhood friends; however, she doesn't remember him. It turns out, he was a dog. When she and Hakuya fall off a cliff, she almost dies. Hakuya gives her some of his power in order that she will live. Obviously, he has a "human form" as well.

This is not godly. An animal transforming into a human and becoming engaged to a person? Did not God say that if a human and a beast have relations with each other, they are to die? Why, then, would it be okay for a human and a beast to be engaged to be married, either?

And also, the power that he gave to save her life is magical. The Bible is clear that magic is wickedness (Galatians 5:19-20).

Cohabitation

Hakuya and his sister move in with Kobeni, Benio, and their mother. While there aren't any improper relations going on, the Bible is clear that we are to avoid the appearance of evil.

"Abstain from all appearance of evil." (1 Thessalonians 5:22)

It is not abstaining from the appearance of evil if you are living together with a woman you're not family to (e.g., mother, sister, grandmother, wife, etc.).

Conclusion

I think we can conclude that this sort of content is wicked and anti-Christ. Let us, Christians, avoid this show because of the sinful things found in it.

Are there "Christian anime"? Many anime-watching believers would affirm that there are. But what constitutes a "Christian anime"? What is the criterion by which we determine if something is Christian or not (e.g., anime, movies, video games)? Within Christianity, there will always be those who compromise their biblical standards upon the altar of pleasure and entertainment. Just as this has been a struggle in the past, it is still a struggle for thousands of Christians worldwide.
